Description
- Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer to support NASA under the Cybersecurity and Privacy Enterprise Support Services Contract (CyPrESS) at Kennedy Space Center. This critical role is part of the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Team and involves working directly with NASA applications that ensure the proper storage and utilization of NASA security policies and processes. Position Summary
- As a Software Engineer on the CyPrESS contract, you will work closely with Project Managers, IT Security Leads, Network Engineers, and Information Assurance Professionals to develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity standards and procedures. Your responsibilities will include supporting the analysis, design, and development of robust security features for key systems, as well as integrating and implementing cybersecurity solutions across NASA's enterprise systems.
- You will assist a dedicated team in executing Change Requests for existing NASA applications that store critical cybersecurity documentation, including policies, procedures, and guidelines. This role requires flexibility to occasionally support after-hours work to accommodate system updates and maintenance. Candidates can work remotely but should expect occasional travel to NASA centers, primarily the Kennedy Space Center, for team meetings and project milestones.

Primary Responsibilities
- Efficiently handle and execute complex development tasks, demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively within an integrated team environment to achieve project goals.
- Lead the implementation of Change Requests within pre-existing NASA applications that store critical cybersecurity documents, policies, procedures, and related artifacts.
- Collaborate with team members to define requirements, develop timelines and schedules, and implement new features and enhancements for cybersecurity applications.
- Perform application development and ongoing maintenance of pre-existing NASA applications, ensuring they remain secure, reliable, and up-to-date with evolving security standards.
- Work across multiple teams within the CyPrESS program, supporting other development efforts and contributing to cross-functional initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities.
- Manage servers and databases, including troubleshooting issues, performing routine maintenance, and optimizing performance to support application reliability.
- Support assessment and authorization processes for NIST requirements, ensuring systems comply with federal security standards and regulations.
- Document processes, procedures, and policies to maintain clear records of system configurations, changes, and operational guidelines.
- Interface with upper management and the customer to communicate project status, gather feedback, and align development activities with organizational priorities.
Basic Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, with 2 to 4 years of IT experience. Candidates must have demonstrated experience contributing to multiple development applications, including support for cybersecurity applications such as IMS, DNS, Mail Server, or GRC, specifically in the areas of application development and maintenance.
- Ability to follow a structured change management process and implement changes into existing platforms while ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Strong aptitude for software configuration and a solid understanding of business process requirements to translate needs into technical solutions.
- Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information quickly, understand complex topics, and arrive at sound resolutions to technical challenges.
- Technical writing and researching skills to effectively communicate problems, document processes, and create clear, concise reports for stakeholders.
- Server administration experience, with the ability to troubleshoot existing application and database issues, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Experience with cybersecurity applications, including an understanding of user experience principles to design intuitive and effective interfaces.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as .NET, C++, Java, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Must hold an OPM Tier 2 or higher LOC and be a U.S. citizen, with the ability to achieve a public trust clearance.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a NASA or enterprise environment, with a strong understanding of federal cybersecurity requirements and operational workflows.
- Familiarity with Archer, a governance, risk, and compliance platform, to support risk management and compliance activities within the cybersecurity framework.
