Junior Civil Engineer: Mine Infrastructure Design

Key Responsibilities

• Design mine infrastructure elements including roads, earthworks, drainage systems, and foundations from conceptual stage to detailed construction drawings.
• Perform hydrological studies to assess water flow, stormwater management, and flood risk for infrastructure projects.
• Conduct geotechnical analyses to evaluate soil and rock conditions, slope stability, and foundation suitability.
• Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, technical specifications, and tender documentation in accordance with industry standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mining engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers, to ensure integrated and efficient design solutions.
• Use advanced design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GeoStudio to produce accurate and compliant designs.
• Review and interpret survey data and topographical maps to inform design decisions and ensure site accuracy.
• Assist in site inspections and support construction supervision to ensure designs are implemented correctly and meet quality standards.
• Manage multiple project tasks simultaneously, prioritizing deadlines and communicating progress to senior engineers.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant South African and international engineering codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSc) or a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Between 2 and 4 years of post-graduate experience in civil engineering, with a preference for experience in mining, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for design and drafting; familiarity with GeoStudio for geotechnical modeling is highly desirable.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Excel for data analysis and Word for report preparation.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites within the Khomas Region and potentially other parts of South Africa.
• Registration as a Candidate Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and sustainability in engineering design.
