Job Summary

MEMX, a forward-thinking financial technology firm, is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our Core Software Engineering team. This is a fully remote, international hire position that offers the unique opportunity to work on the design, development, and production support of the MEMX trading system software. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of our Equities and Options platforms, as well as supporting our Market Tech customers during US evening hours. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full software development life cycle for the MEMX Trading Platform, from requirements analysis to deployment and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain low-latency, high-throughput event-sourcing applications that power our equities and options trading systems.
  • Provide primary production support during US evening hours (10PM - 6AM EST), ensuring system availability and performance.
  • Resolve production software issues in a timely and efficient manner, collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Work on the continuous improvement of system architecture, focusing on performance optimization and scalability.
  • Collaborate with front-office, operations, and customer support teams to understand requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Monitor system health and proactively identify potential issues to prevent downtime.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required, providing after-hours support to ensure business continuity.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to recommend improvements to the trading platform.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in real-time server-side Java software development.
  • Proven experience in developing low-latency, high-volume, high-throughput systems on Linux platforms.
  • Direct experience with US Equities, Options, or Futures asset classes.
  • Strong understanding of event-sourcing design patterns and time-series databases (e.g., Deephaven).
  • Hands-on experience with TCP/IP, UDP networking, and FIX messaging protocols.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as GIT, Gradle, JUnit, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, and Wireshark.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on customer service and creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and manage different systems simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience in a remote-first, dynamic work environment.

Salary & Compensation Estimation

The salary for this role is competitive and based on local market data, as MEMX hires internationally. For candidates in the United States, the estimated annual base salary ranges from $130,000 to $180,000, depending on experience and location. In addition to base pay, MEMX offers a comprehensive benefits package including work-from-home stipends, training and development opportunities, wellness resources, and region-specific perks. The total compensation package is designed to attract top talent and may include performance bonuses and equity incentives. For international candidates, compensation will be benchmarked against local markets to ensure fairness and competitiveness.
