Associate Director, Supply Chain Management

Job Summary

FHI 360, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through integrated, locally driven solutions, is seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director of Supply Chain Management to lead supply chain strengthening efforts in Tanzania. This senior leadership role is critical to enhancing the country's public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services, ensuring sustainable access to safe, effective, and affordable health commodities. Reporting directly to the Technical Director, the Associate Director will provide strategic and technical leadership, oversee program implementation, and drive innovation across the supply chain ecosystem. Key Responsibilities

• Set the overall strategic direction for the supply chain portfolio, establishing measurable performance indicators aligned with project objectives and donor priorities.
• Provide leadership to achieve supply chain objectives, deliverables, and performance targets, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Lead the supply chain work-planning process in collaboration with project leadership, ensuring activities align with annual work plans and approved budgets.
• Ensure donor, programmatic, operational, and financial requirements are met, with deliverables completed within established timelines and quality standards.
• Oversee implementation of supply chain activities, monitoring progress against work plans, milestones, indicators, and budgets.
• Identify implementation risks and operational challenges, developing mitigation strategies to ensure achievement of project objectives.
• Manage consultants, sub-partners, and technical advisors engaged in supply chain activities, ensuring sound oversight and performance.
• Coordinate with the Director of Strategic Information to ensure systems support effective monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adaptive management.
• Drive review and interpretation of supply chain performance data to inform decision-making, continuous improvement, and program adaptation.
• Oversee preparation and quality assurance of donor reports, technical updates, work plans, success stories, presentations, and other deliverables.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality reporting on progress, achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and performance indicators.
• Serve as the primary focal point for strategic engagement with government counterparts, donors, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.
• Foster collaborative relationships with national and sub-national stakeholders to strengthen ownership, coordination, and sustainability of interventions.
• Represent the project at relevant technical working groups, stakeholder meetings, and external forums.
• Liaise with the Senior Technical Advisor for Communication and Knowledge Management to ensure effective documentation and dissemination of achievements and best practices.
• Promote the use of evidence, data, and learning to strengthen supply chain systems and improve program performance.
• Ensure compliance with donor regulations, organizational policies, and applicable national guidelines related to supply chain and pharmaceutical management.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

• Master's degree (or international equivalent) in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, or a related field.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience, including at least 3 years in leadership and line management.
• Demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects in developing countries, with preference for those with considerable experience leading large and complex supply chains or managing health supply chain technical assistance projects in low- and middle-income countries.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working on supply chain or pharmaceutical management projects in low- and middle-income countries.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills, with the ability to interpret performance data, identify implementation challenges, and develop actionable recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government counterparts, donors, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.
• Proven success overseeing high-performing supply chains with direct knowledge of innovations and best practices.
• Working knowledge of or experience improving product availability, visibility, supply chain performance, and risk mitigation measures.
• Demonstrated success managing a team to implement complex, large-scale projects on time and on budget.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili (native or equivalent level).

Salary & Compensation Estimation

The expected annual basic salary for this role is TZS 90,000,000 to 130,000,000 (approximately USD 34,000 to 49,000 based on current exchange rates). FHI 360 determines offer amounts based on factors including relevant years of experience, education, internal equity, market pay, and budget.
