Position Summary

Davis School District is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to serve as a Summer Part Time Custodian at Heritage Elementary. This is a temporary, summer-only position intended to support the district’s facilities team in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager, the custodian will perform essential cleaning and maintenance duties, assist with special event setups, and respond to work requests from school personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning of school building interiors, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common areas, ensuring all surfaces are sanitized and free of debris.

Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors; clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces; empty trash receptacles and replace liners as needed.

Maintain school grounds by picking up litter, sweeping walkways, and ensuring entrances and exits are clear and safe.

Set up and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies for special events, assemblies, meetings, and other school activities.

Assist school personnel with work requests, including moving furniture, hanging bulletin boards, and performing minor repairs or adjustments.

Monitor and report any safety hazards, maintenance needs, or supply shortages to the Facility Manager in a timely manner.

Follow all established cleaning and sanitation procedures, using approved chemicals and equipment safely and effectively.

Support the Facilities team in maintaining an organized inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age or older at the time of hire.

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations necessary for following instructions, completing logs, and measuring cleaning solutions.

Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong attention to detail.

Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 50 pounds), and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.

Reliable transportation to and from Heritage Elementary location.

Prior custodial or janitorial experience is preferred, but not required; training will be provided.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time temporary position, working 5.9 hours per day for a total of 52 days during the summer season.

Hourly pay rate is $16.11 per hour, based on the 2025-2026 Support Salary Table, Grade 2.

Salary increases of 5% minimum are available for eligible promotions.

No degree or prior certifications are required for this role.

This position is classified as a temporary summer role and does not include benefits typically offered to full-time employees.
