Job Summary

Belcan, a leading provider of engineering and technical services, is seeking a highly motivated Remote Embedded Software Engineer with a focus on C coding to support one of our key aerospace clients. This role is centered on Linux Simulation Application Development and offers the opportunity to work from anywhere in the United States. As part of a dedicated simulation team, you will contribute to all phases of product development, from early requirements analysis through design, to final product validation and verification. This is a full-time, remote position that requires US Citizenship due to the nature of the work. If you have a strong background in complex software application design, maintenance, and support, and are eager to apply your skills in a cutting-edge aerospace environment, this role is an ideal fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate product embedded code into the simulator architecture, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
  • Integrate the simulator into hardware-in-the-loop test environments to validate system behavior under realistic conditions.
  • Support, maintain, and enhance simulation tools, including drawing editors and scripting engine extensions.
  • Investigate and remediate performance issues with the simulator, optimizing speed and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and correct functional issues such as crashes, build failures, and incorrect outputs.
  • Collaborate with the development team to create estimates and support project planning and scheduling.
  • Support the qualification of simulator components for formal product verification, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Create and update technical documentation to maintain clear and accurate records.
  • Address ad hoc questions from simulator users to determine if remediation efforts are required.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. A degree in Software Engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on C coding (preferably embedded C) and some knowledge of C+.
  • Due to the nature of the work performed, US Citizenship is a mandatory requirement.
  • Experience developing applications under the UNIX/Linux operating system family; Windows experience is also acceptable.
  • Familiarity with embedded flight software build processes, including comfort with tools such as make.
  • Knowledge of Linux POSIX mechanisms for inter-process communication (IPC) and threading.
  • Proficiency with common symbolic debugging tools such as gdb, ddd, or dbx.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as TCL, Python, and Linux shell.
  • Aerospace experience, particularly with aircraft systems architecture, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in GUI development, Linux system administration, computational numerical methods, and TCP/IP is a plus.

Skills Inventory

Essential Skills:

  • Expert proficiency in C programming, with a preference for embedded C applications.
  • Working knowledge of C+ for cross-language integration.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using tools like gdb or similar.
  • Experience with Linux/UNIX development environments and command-line tools.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and build automation tools.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, managing time effectively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Scripting with TCL, Python, or Linux shell for automation.
  • Knowledge of POSIX APIs for threading and inter-process communication.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of aerospace systems and simulation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with GUI frameworks and numerical analysis methods.

Salary & Compensation Estimation

The annual salary for this position ranges from $83,200 to $104,000, depending on factors such as education, experience, geographic location, and discipline. Belcan offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health care, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, education assistance, and paid time off including PTO and holidays.
