Job Summary
DefenseStorm is seeking a Junior Product Engineer (Software Engineer I) to join our remote team and help shape the future of the GRID platform. In this role, you will move beyond traditional software development and embrace an AI-native approach, where your primary focus is on defining precise specifications, directing AI agents through iterative development, and validating the resulting product to ensure it delivers real customer value. You will work collaboratively with product, design, engineering, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear, measurable outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and customer-facing teams to define the right outcomes for the GRID platform.
- Translate customer and business problems into precise problem statements, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Break large initiatives into small, independently deliverable increments that can be executed by AI agents.
- Direct AI agents through iterative development workflows, providing clear context and constraints.
- Review and evaluate agent-generated code for correctness, maintainability, security, and alignment with specifications.
- Validate results through comprehensive testing, demonstrations, and customer-focused evaluation.
- Diagnose failures to improve the specification, context, and the agent harness itself.
- Maintain a high standard for reviewing and validating work, rather than accepting generated output at face value.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support team and company goals.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- 0 to 4 years of experience building and maintaining production software systems.
- An AI-native mindset and a genuine interest in building software through agentic workflows.
- Strong ability to turn ambiguous problems into precise specifications and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Proficiency with software engineering principles to evaluate agent-produced architecture, data flow, tests, edge cases, and security.
- Comfort iterating quickly, learning from failures, and improving instructions based on results.
- Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, ownership, and a collaborative mindset.
