Software Engineer- Upper Mid-level / Senior (Remote)

Job Summary

This is a remote-first opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer to join a dynamic enterprise technology team. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining a modern web platform using C# and .NET technologies. As an upper mid-level or senior engineer, you will take ownership of features from technical design through to release, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor less-experienced developers. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain features across a modern enterprise web platform.
• Build secure backend services and web applications using C# and modern .NET frameworks.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and integrate with third-party systems.
• Work with relational databases, data models, and performance-sensitive queries.
• Contribute to responsive and user-friendly web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Take full ownership of features from technical design through development, testing, and release.
• Review requirements and identify technical risks, dependencies, and edge cases.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical planning, and code reviews.
• Write clean, maintainable, and appropriately tested code.
• Investigate defects, performance issues, and production incidents.
• Estimate development effort and communicate progress, risks, and blockers clearly.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• Contribute to engineering standards, secure development practices, and delivery processes.
• Support and mentor less-experienced developers where appropriate.
• Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve delivery, testing, documentation, and technical analysis.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

• Approximately five or more years of relevant commercial software development experience.
• Strong recent experience developing production software using C# and .NET.
• Experience delivering meaningful features from requirement through to production.
• Experience working within a professional software development team.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Equivalent practical experience and a strong technical track record may be considered in place of a formal qualification.
• Practical understanding of secure authentication, session management, role-based access control, secure API design, input validation, and protection against common web vulnerabilities.
• Knowledge of OWASP secure development principles, logging, monitoring, audit trails, and protection of confidential information.
• Commitment to code quality, maintainability, and testability.

Salary & Compensation Estimation

For a remote software engineer at upper mid-level to senior level in South Africa, the annual base salary typically ranges from ZAR 600,000 to ZAR 950,000, depending on experience and specific skills.
