Job Summary
Compass is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Integrated Services (CIS) engineering team, a core driver of the company's next phase of growth and platform evolution. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust backend microservices and APIs that power One-Click Title & Escrow, Insurance, Mortgage, and Home Warranty workflows.
- Contribute to frontend development using modern frameworks like React and TypeScript, ensuring seamless full-stack feature delivery.
- Deliver features end-to-end, working independently on small to mid-sized components and collaborating with senior engineers on complex designs.
- Enhance operational excellence by improving system monitoring, participating in on-call rotations, and ensuring the reliability and stability of integrated services.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code with minimal defects, create comprehensive tests to prevent regressions, and generate minimal technical debt.
- Act as a subject matter expert on specific internal components or tools, serving as a go-to resource for peers and mentoring incoming software engineering interns.
- Collaborate in Agile workflows, actively participating in code reviews, team planning, and design discussions while providing constructive feedback.
- Continuously learn the broader business context of your team's software to drive informed technical decisions.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
- 2-4 years of software engineering experience developing well-tested, high-performance applications.
- Strong backend engineering skills with proficiency in languages such as Go, Node.js, Python, or Java.
- Practical experience with modern frontend technologies, ideally TypeScript and React, and a willingness to tackle full-stack challenges.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and implementation trade-offs.
- Experience building and consuming APIs (gRPC or REST) and working within microservice architectures.
- Familiarity with AWS/cloud technologies, event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka), and modern CI/CD tooling is a strong plus.
- Dedication to software testing best practices (e.g., Jest, Cypress, or equivalent backend testing frameworks).
- A collaborative mindset with a track record of independent execution on straightforward technical problems and an eagerness to seek guidance when facing ambiguity.
- Practical experience or strong interest in using AI-assisted development tools (like ClaudeCode or GitHub Copilot) in real delivery environments.
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Salary & Compensation Estimation
The estimated base salary for this role is between $110,000 and $145,000 USD per year, depending on experience and location. In addition to base pay, Compass offers participation in incentive programs that may include cash, equity, or commissions.
