Job Summary
Dunn and Braxton, on behalf of a leading financial institution with a strong presence across Nigeria, is seeking a highly motivated and commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead the Emerging Corporate Banking segment. This executive-level role is pivotal in developing and managing a portfolio of emerging corporate clients by delivering tailored financial solutions, deepening client relationships, driving sustainable revenue growth, and ensuring superior credit quality. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in originating new business, managing risk, coordinating cross-functional teams, and positioning the bank as the preferred financial partner for high-growth businesses. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the Emerging Corporate Banking strategy aligned with the client's business objectives.
- Grow assets, liabilities, trade finance, treasury, transaction banking, and fee-based income from assigned clients.
- Identify and acquire new emerging corporate customers across key economic sectors.
- Expand wallet share through cross-selling of the client's products and services, and build a robust pipeline of prospective clients and conversion opportunities.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of emerging corporate clients, developing a deep understanding of their businesses, industries, financial performance, and strategic priorities.
- Maintain regular engagement with senior executives and key decision-makers, delivering exceptional client experience while ensuring timely resolution of customer issues.
- Originate, structure, and negotiate lending transactions within the bank's risk appetite, conducting comprehensive financial and credit analysis.
- Prepare high-quality credit proposals and recommendations, monitor portfolio performance to ensure asset quality, and identify early signs of potential risks.
- Ensure compliance with all credit policies, regulatory requirements, and internal risk standards, including AML/KYC standards and other governance requirements.
- Work closely with Risk, Credit, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Finance, and Product teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Represent the client at industry forums, business associations, and networking events, building relationships with regulators, industry bodies, and strategic partners where appropriate.
- Lead, coach, and mentor Relationship Managers and Banking Officers, fostering a high-performance, customer-centric culture.
- Support talent development, succession planning, and performance management, and encourage collaboration across business units.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- MBA or Master's degree is an advantage.
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CFA, CIBN, or equivalent is desirable.
- 10 to 12 years of banking experience, with a minimum of 5 years in Corporate Banking or Commercial Banking relationship management.
- Proven experience managing emerging corporate or mid-market clients.
- Demonstrated success in business development, credit structuring, and portfolio management.
- Experience leading teams is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in business acquisition, deposit mobilization, and portfolio management.
- Experience in credit analysis and structuring of banking solutions for corporate clients.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve and exceed business targets.
