Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a mission-driven sports booking platform dedicated to making recreational sports accessible for everyone. This is a fully remote, full-time position open to candidates worldwide, with a preference for those able to work during core hours of 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Pacific Time. As a key member of a small, agile team, you will play a pivotal role in building and scaling a sports and recreation operating system. You will develop and maintain web applications using modern JavaScript technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to architectural decisions. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in a fast-paced startup environment, mentor junior engineers, and directly impact the growth of a platform that connects communities through sports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain robust, scalable web applications using Node.js, Koa, React, and Next.js.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of projects, from addressing small bug fixes to delivering large-scale, high-impact features.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers, designers, and product managers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure high code quality, performance, and security standards.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of the platform's applications.
  • Advise the team on architectural best practices and system design improvements.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and other agile ceremonies.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending adoption where beneficial.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on web application development.
  • Proven experience with Node.js, React, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Next.js, Koa).
  • Strong understanding of JavaScript libraries, web performance optimization, and responsive design.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
  • Willingness to work core hours overlapping with Pacific Time (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT) for collaboration.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Experience with scheduling systems and/or payment processing is a strong plus.

Skills Inventory

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in Node.js and server-side JavaScript.
  • Expertise in React and client-side state management.
  • Experience with Next.js for server-side rendering and static site generation.
  • Familiarity with Koa or similar middleware frameworks.
