About the Role

Twyford International Uganda is seeking an experienced and proactive Employee Relations Specialist to support the establishment and growth of our manufacturing operations in Kapeeka. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering positive employee relations, ensuring compliance with Uganda labor laws, managing disciplinary processes, maintaining personnel records, and serving as a key liaison between employees, management, and external regulatory bodies. This role is critical to building a harmonious and legally compliant workplace as we expand our manufacturing footprint in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations Management: Manage and resolve employee relations issues professionally, fairly, and in accordance with company policies and labor legislation. Provide guidance to supervisors and managers on employee relations matters and workplace conduct. Promote a positive work environment and support employee engagement initiatives to reduce turnover and boost morale.

Disciplinary and Grievance Management: Coordinate and lead disciplinary hearings and grievance investigations. Prepare and issue all disciplinary documentation including show-cause letters, warning letters, suspension letters, termination letters, dismissal letters, and separation notices. Ensure disciplinary procedures are conducted in full compliance with Uganda labor laws and company policies. Maintain accurate records of all disciplinary cases and employee grievances for reporting and audit purposes.

Compliance and External Relations: Liaise with relevant government and regulatory agencies including labor offices, social security institutions, and health insurance authorities. Ensure full compliance with employment legislation and statutory requirements. Support labor inspections, audits, and compliance reviews to mitigate legal risks and maintain the company's reputation.

Personnel Records Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files and HR records. Ensure proper filing, documentation, confidentiality, and data integrity of all personnel information. Monitor employee documentation and support HR reporting requirements to enable data-driven decision-making.

HR Administration Support: Assist in implementing HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Support employee onboarding and separation processes to ensure smooth transitions. Prepare periodic reports related to employee relations activities for senior management. Perform any other duties assigned by the Human Resource Manager or HR Business Partner to support overall HR objectives.

Timely resolution of employee relations and disciplinary matters.

Consistent compliance with labor laws and company policies.

Effectiveness in personnel records management and data integrity.

Timeliness and quality of reporting and feedback to stakeholders.

Demonstrated professionalism and positive working attitude.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Employee Relations, Human Resources, or Industrial Relations, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of the Uganda Employment Act and local labor regulations.

Proven experience handling disciplinary processes, grievance management, and employee engagement initiatives.

Skills and Competencies

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.

Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities to handle sensitive situations.

High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HR information systems.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
