Job Summary

Tugende, a dynamic and growing organization based in Kampala, Uganda, is seeking an experienced and visionary General Manager to lead its operations and management functions. This is a full-time, senior-level leadership role that demands a strategic thinker with a proven track record in driving organizational performance, managing cross-functional teams, and delivering measurable results. The General Manager will serve as the key executive responsible for shaping the company’s direction, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation. Reporting directly to the board or executive leadership, you will oversee day-to-day operations, develop and implement business strategies, and manage resources to achieve both short-term targets and long-term growth objectives. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all operational aspects of the company, including finance, human resources, sales, marketing, and customer service, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive business plans and budgets, monitoring performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjusting strategies as needed to meet targets.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of management staff, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring talent retention.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to drive business growth and compliance.
  • Drive revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities, optimizing pricing strategies, and enhancing customer acquisition and retention initiatives.
  • Implement and enforce company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure operational efficiency, risk management, and legal compliance.
  • Prepare and present regular operational and financial reports to the board or executive team, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Manage the company’s supply chain, logistics, and inventory to ensure timely delivery of products or services while controlling costs.
  • Lead change management initiatives and drive organizational transformation to adapt to market trends and competitive pressures.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and satisfaction by monitoring feedback and implementing service improvement programs.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive management experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership or general management role.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, preferably in the services, financial, or technology sectors in Uganda or East Africa.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, P&L management, and driving operational efficiencies.
  • Strong understanding of the Ugandan regulatory and business environment, including labor laws, tax regulations, and industry standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams.

Salary & Compensation Estimation

This is a competitive senior-level role in Kampala, Uganda. Based on market benchmarks for General Managers in the services and technology sectors within East Africa, the estimated annual salary band is between 120,000,000 and 180,000,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings), which translates to approximately 32,000 to 48,000 USD. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the candidate’s track record. In addition to base salary, the role may include performance-based bonuses, health insurance, transportation allowance, and other executive benefits as per Tugende’s policy.
