Job Summary
Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse to join our field team in Adjumani, Uganda. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients, including assessment, diagnosis support, treatment administration, and follow-up care, adhering to MSF clinical protocols and standards.
- Support mass vaccination campaigns, nutrition screening, and community health outreach programs targeting vulnerable populations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting medical histories, treatments, and outcomes in both paper and digital systems.
- Collaborate with doctors, midwives, and community health workers to ensure coordinated care and referral pathways for complex cases.
- Educate patients and families on disease prevention, hygiene practices, and treatment adherence, particularly for communicable diseases and chronic conditions.
- Assist in the management of medical supplies, ensuring stock levels are adequate and medications are stored safely.
- Participate in daily briefings, case reviews, and reporting to the medical team leader, flagging any public health concerns or gaps in care.
- Uphold infection prevention and control measures, minimizing nosocomial infections and ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Adapt quickly to changing field conditions, including emergency surges or new disease outbreaks, and support mobile clinic activities as needed.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized institution. A current nursing license with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council is mandatory.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a hospital or primary care setting. Experience in humanitarian or rural settings is a strong advantage.
- Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Additional training in tropical medicine or infectious diseases is a plus.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and in resource-limited environments, with strong problem-solving skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages such as Madi, Acholi, or Swahili is highly desirable for effective communication with the refugee community.
- Willingness to live and work in a field location with limited amenities, and to adhere to MSF security and safety protocols.
