Software Engineer (Python or Java)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-availability backend services using Python or Java.
• Collaborate with product and UX teams to understand stakeholder needs and build generic, reusable solutions that benefit all customers.
• Own features from design documents and code reviews to acceptance testing and deployment, ensuring end-to-end quality.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that follows best practices and anticipates potential issues.
• Review code from peers, providing constructive feedback to improve readability, performance, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Continuously improve the platform's scalability, security, and availability by applying modern engineering practices.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure timely delivery of features.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and contribute to the team's technical roadmap.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in backend development using Python or Java.
• Basic understanding of AWS services, including compute, storage, and networking.
• Proficiency with version control tools and processes, such as Git and Gitflow.
• Experience with continuous delivery of cloud-based software, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of features from design through deployment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team environment.
• No specific degree required; we value practical experience and a growth mindset.

Skills Inventory

• Proficiency in Python or Java programming languages.
• Experience with RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
• Knowledge of database systems, both SQL and NoSQL.
• Understanding of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
