Software Engineer

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain infrastructure, data models, and system architecture to support new features and scale existing ones.
• Design and implement APIs that solve customer problems and enable other engineers to build solutions efficiently.
• Write clean, well-designed, and testable code with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Ensure systems are optimized for scalability, observability, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including front-end engineers and product managers, to deliver integrated solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing procedures, and documentation to maintain high engineering standards.
• Analyze and resolve customer issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
• Contribute to key company-building initiatives beyond core product development.

Role Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Proficiency with AWS, Postgres, and Node.js.
• Experience with TypeGraphQL, Apollo/Express, and Postgres (hosted on RDS) and ClickHouse as database technologies.
• Familiarity with React for front-end development (a plus, but not mandatory).
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers of varying specializations.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound technical tradeoffs and choose stable, supported solutions over trendy ones.
• A customer-centric mindset, using real-world problems to drive system design.

Skills Inventory

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in Node.js and backend development.
• Experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of Postgres and database design.
• API development and design (REST, GraphQL).
• Understanding of scalability, reliability, and observability principles.
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with TypeGraphQL or similar GraphQL frameworks.
• Familiarity with ClickHouse or other columnar databases.
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies like React.
• Experience with ML systems or data pipelines.
• Knowledge of GTM or sales/marketing technology.

Salary & Compensation Estimation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $87,600 to $186,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. Zoom also offers a Total Direct Compensation package that includes base salary, performance-based bonuses, and equity. The final offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, as well as geographic location.
